This was a very special occasion for Northern Golf Club; the opening of the new clubhouse which has replaced the aged but well-loved 1912 building. While the new building has retained some of the characteristics of the original clubhouse in the pillars and the roof line it has given the club and members a modern facility of which they can be truly proud. Northern’s new clubhouse will attract interest in the golfing community as a most successful project.
The completion of the three year project to build a new Clubhouse, Pro Shop, members’ buggy storage facilities and teaching studio culminated in a sell-out dinner in the Clubhouse on Friday 26th October. The evening coincided with the induction of two new members of Northern’s Hall of Fame.
President Peter Randles was pleased to formally open the Clubhouse and in his address acknowledged the work of the contractors and the roles played by Mick Leyden as Project Supervisor, Brendan Moloney for the oversight of costs and GM Charles Potter for his daily liaison with the contractors. He congratulated all involved in the project for keeping within the budget parameters.
Peter looked forward to members taking full advantage of the new facility and enjoying the new surroundings, the bar lounge and locker rooms. He said that the Club will take advantage of the spacious verandas with outdoor furniture and hoped that members will be able to enjoy their club even more. It is anticipated that the facilities will attract new members and will be a sought after venue for community events and activities.
The Club President acknowledged all involved in the success of the dinner and particularly the presentation by the chef and the hospitality staff who contributed greatly to a most enjoyable night. He thanked members for their support for the occasion.
