Michael Church reports on the first round’s play
The first round of the 2018 Club Championships was played in fine cool conditions with increasing winds in the afternoon that proved a good test of golf for all players. However Dan Wright was the stand-out player on the day with a four-under 68, leading the gross and nett events in the Championships. He has a four shot lead over second placed Harley Cindric the 2017 Junior Champion with defending Club Champion James Lavender a further two shots behind on 74. Juniors Jack Chrystie 73 and Zac Wood 74 are well placed after good opening rounds. As usual play was slow on the first day, the nervousness of round one, as no one wanted a blow-out and round two will see the competition begin in earnest.
Peter Pugliese holds a one-shot lead over Michael Hooke in the Northern Cup with a further six players within two shots. Frank Mott is one-shot ahead of Vic Ristovichis in the Glenroy Cup with Michael Church a further shot behind in a close contest.
